Adobe Photoshop is an extremely powerful Photo Editing tool that empowers you to manipulate and enhance raster images (digital photos). To Get Started:

  3. Read and work through all of the step-by-step tutorials in each chapter of the book
  4. Complete ALL of the Chapter assignments, tests and final projects as required below.
  5. Submission File Format(s):
    • All Photoshop projects/assignments must be submitted as FLATTENED LoRes PDF or JPEG files (unless specified otherwise in a project sheet, or the lesson is teaching about resolution).
    • Use detailed instructions below to create submission PDFs or JPEGs.

      Criteria: Flattened/Non-layered, High Quality, 150 ppiExample from Adobe Photoshop CS6, Mac OS X:

      • Always save your unflattened .psd file first (keep it for your project archives)
      • Flatten Image (Layers panel; discard hidden layers)
      • Convert Color Mode (if necessary for project)
        • Image > Mode (Select CMYK, RGB, etc.)
      • File > Save As…
        • Choose Destination (where to save file)
        • Format: Photoshop PDF (pdf)
        • Save: As a Copy
        • Color: Embed Color Profile
        • Delete spaces and/or “copy” from file name
        • Save (Dialog box opens)
      • Adobe PDF Preset > High Quality Print
        • General > Options
          • Deselect: Preserve Photoshop Capabilities
          • Select: All other options
        • Compression > Options
          • Set first text entry fields to: 150 ppi
          • Compression: JPEG
          • Image Quality: High
        • Save PDF (file should self-open for final proofing)
      • Close .psd file and Don’t Save (changes)

    • ▸ Create Submission JPEG (Instructions Enclosed)

Project Assignments

Your grade on the following three project assignments will be based on your first submission.  Your customer would expect you to get it correct the first time.

Project #1

Combine an image of a wild animal with an image of a location where that animal wouldn’t normally be found. Examples: An Elephant in Downtown NYC, a Lion in the Grocery Store, etc. Make sure you add shadows and lighting to make it look as realistic as possible. Link the image (in .jpg format) to your Assignments page. . Submit a link to your Business Website   through Blackboard.


Project #2

Create a Pirate-themed movie poster, use 150 ppi and size it as 20″ X 20″ remember to name your movie .  Do not use any real pirate movie.   Submit a link to your Business Website through Blackboard.


Project #3

Redesign the Home Page of your business website by creating two mockups: A Desktop Version (1350px x 700px) and a Mobile Version (320px x 480px). Link both images (in .jpg format) on your Assignments page. Apply good Design, UI and UX principles to your design  Submit a link to your Business Website  through Blackboard. Your assignment web page will have two links on it for this project.


Adobe ACA Certification:

Pinellas Technical College provides you the opportunity to get the Adobe Photoshop ACA Industry certification at no cost to you.  Most of the Windows PCs has practice test software already installed.  Ask one of the instructors for directions on how to use this Certiport software.  After you have scored 900 on the practice test you can take the Adobe Photoshop ACA exam.  This exam is provided for you by Pinellas Technical College.  The college is a Certiport testing center.  After you pass this certification tell one of the instructors so that they can print out your certificate.
